Confession: I never really paid attention to the ingredient labels on cleaning products. If it did the job then that was good enough for me. When my kids were still babies, I switched out a lot of products to "cleaner" versions since they were constantly putting things in their mouth.
If your social media feeds look anything like mine, then you've seen people sharing about essential oils and their positive experiences. I dabbled in oils briefly to help my son, who is allergic to sleep, try and sleep better. I was never consistent and once my bottles ran out then that was it for me.
Fast forward a few years and one of my work besties started talking to me about Young Living Essential Oils. At first I just listened and figured she was a rambling hippie. The more she talked about it, the more interested I became. My son has eczema and gets asthma flares with croup. I have sensitive skin and get horrible migraines. Although my kids aren't babies anymore (cue the mama tears), they still spill, have accidents, touch all the surfaces like it's their job, and the list goes on. When my friend told me that she switched out her cleaning products once she had her baby, I figured I might as well try oils again and be open-minded. Here's what happened...
I ordered a Premium Starter Kit (PSK) and eagerly awaited for it like Christmas morning. You can see my unboxing video here.
I also ordered the Thieves Home Cleaning Kit when I enrolled in Essential Rewards. It came with a bottle of the Thieves Household Cleaner and several other goodies. I decided one of the first things I was going to try was adding Thieves to my carpet shampoo machine. I added 2 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner to the gallon water tank and hoped for the best. With 2 kids, a small dog with an anxious bladder, and 3 cats, the carpet and couches take a beating. Everything I've ever tried had a very chemical smell, left the fabric feeling really starchy, and nothing, I mean NOTHING touched the stains on the couch. So my expectations were low.
Let me tell you, I was SHOCKED at how amazing the Thieves cleaner worked! No chemical smell, the carpet was left incredibly soft, and the couch looks brand new.
Exhibit A: The Coffee Spill. This was set in for about a week. I knew my Thieves cleaner was coming and I wanted to put it to the test. I didn't see the coffee spill until it was dried, so I left it alone. That was a hard job for someone like me. Every time I saw it the stain was whispering "clean me".
Exhibit B: Anxious Dog Pee. My dog could go outside a hundred times a day, and if I go upstairs without him there's a good chance he'll pee on the living room floor. Thanks Cliff.
Exhibit C: Various Stains from Kids. I love this couch, but the material is very unforgiving. Even a small water spill will leave a mark on it. I've tried cleaning it before and everything left even more marks. Note to self: will not get a linen couch again.
I was impressed with the coffee and dog pee, but what really left me shocked was the couch. Skeptic to full on Thiever here!
